Exchange – 451 4.4.0 DNS query failed OR 4.4.0 Primary target IP address responded

Yes – this is STILL an issue. A hotfix/patch has been pending for over a YEAR! If you want to read all the details do a search on:

The fix? Under your Send Connectors, check “Use the External DNS Lookup settings on the transport server”.

Don’t forget to set your External DNS settings under “Server Configuration >> Hub Transport” under the “External DNS Lookups” tab.

Finally, for fun, you can restart the Microsoft Transport service.
